Spelling
I will be working with several students in Mr. Burnett's third grade classroom in the area of spelling. If you need your student's spelling list, you can check at www.spellingcity.com.
Here are directions to find your student's spelling list if I work with them.
1. Go to www.spellingcity.com.
2. Click on “Find A List.”
3. Enter “Kimberly Coulter” and click “Search.”
4. Under “Search Results,” click on “Kimberly Coulter.”
5. Then click the current week’s list (ex. “Unit 3 Words.”)
Click on a word for a quick lesson about it, or you can click “Spelling Test,” or “Play A Game” and follow instructions
If I do not work with your student, I would still suggest that you check out www.spellingcity.com. You or your child can type weekly spelling words and make your own list. Your student will have access to the same fun review activities.
Here are some other suggestions to review spelling words.
1. Have the student write the words with consonants in one color and vowels in another.
2. Have the student draw a picture to define each spelling word.
3. Have your student sing, chant, of clap as he spells each word.
4. Have your student spell the words with magnetic letter tiles.
5. Have your student use the word in a poem, story, or sentence.
6. Play hangman using spelling words of the week.
7. Spell the words in sand, shaving cream, or using dry macaroni.
8. Have the student use water and paint brush and spell the word on a sidewalk or chalkboard. (No mess to clean up!)
9. Have your student jump or catch a ball for each letter as she spells.
10. Have a staircase race. For every correct spelling word let your student climb up on step.
